Quiz time!
About 50% of China’s population is farmers.
Less than 2% of the United State’s population is farmers.
Who has the more affordable food?
Common sense would tell us that more farmers growing food should mean cheaper food, but not so. Because American farmers and ranchers lead the world in land and energy efficiency, they also lead the world in production. More food means more affordability. In fact, Americans enjoy the most affordable food in the world – about 7% of the average disposable income. (It increases to about 10% if you include food eaten away from home, but that’s still the smallest percentage compared to other nations.)
